Pre Op Instructions
- Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance as per Georgia Law. If you are referred by another facility, they can forward your signed WRTK.
- Your Parent and or Driver MUST remain with you at all times, this is especially important for minor patients. You will not be admitted without a Parent/Driver who must bring government issued identification.
- Your eating and drinking restrictions will be outlined by the Phone Counselor.
- Children are not permitted in the office or on the grounds of the office at any time.
- Payment is due on the day you are admitted.
What to Expect
- Remember that you are not alone. The decision to terminate a pregnancy is a difficult one, so don’t expect too much of yourself afterwards. Women of all races, religious, economic backgrounds and ages face this decision every day.
- Your Counselor & the Nursing Staff will provide you with both verbal and written instructions on how to care for yourself after the abortion; how to take your medications, contraceptive management and what signs to look for that may be a medical emergency.
- Children are not permitted in the office or on the grounds of the office at any time.
- Payment is due on the day you are admitted.
Georgia Counseling
Georgia has implemented a law that requires all patients to be counseled on their decision at least 24 hours prior to their appointment. The information below must be read or have someone read it to you. In doing so this satisfies Georgia counseling requirement. The information is meant to help you make an informed decision. Please remember reproductive choice is indeed your decision!!
There are particular medical risks involved with both terminating a pregnancy and continuing a pregnancy to term.
The risks for terminating a pregnancy surgically is less than 3% of all patients, and may include but is not limited to the following: Incomplete procedure, adverse reactions to medications, abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, infection, injury to the uterus, bladder, or bowel. Again, these complications are very unlikely and occur in less 3% of all patients. The risks for terminating a pregnancy non-surgically using medications may include but is not limited to the following: incomplete procedure, heavy bleeding, or adverse reaction to medications.
The risks involved with continuing a pregnancy to term may include, but is not limited to the following: severe complications during labor and delivery, uncontrolled bleeding and blood clot in the lungs, seizures and/or strokes, abnormal functioning of the heart, complications with anesthesia, or high blood pressure.
Medical assistance benefits may be available for prenatal care, childbirth, and neonatal care. The father is liable to assist in the support of the child. Materials that describe the fetus, a list of agencies that offer alternative to abortions, and contain information on fetal pain are available for review prior to the procedure in the office and online at dph.georgia.gov.
